I miss my grandmas so much. Both of them. I wish my kids had gotten to know them like I did, to know what wonderful women they both were. Kayci and Cody were only about 5 & 6 when Gramma Jessie died, and about 14 & 15 when Gramma Flanigan left us. Grandma Flanigan was full of life, of energy, and the word “boring” was not in her vocabulary. She loved to cook, and to feed people, no one ever left her table hungry! Gramma Jessie was sweet, classy, and full of love for the Savior, and of course all of her family. I wrote this about Gramma Jessie several years ago. Even with hands bent by painful arthritis, she would knit or crochet afghans and baby blankets for all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Legacy of Love
Grandma Jessie I miss you much.
Your soft blue eyes, your gentle touch,
As you would smooth my tangled hair
With gentle hands and loving care.
I miss your gentleness, your grace,
Your loving eyes, your smiling face,
As you would laugh, and tease, and play,
Never weary, ever gay.
I miss your cheerfulness, your smile,
Though you were hurting all the while,
With gnarled hands, and piercing pain
I never heard you once complain.
You would create with magic and yarn
Afghans and blankets soft and warm
Sitting in your rocking chair,
With pain another could not bear.
Yes, Grandma Jessie, I miss you much
Your soft blue eyes, your gentle touch.
I hold my blanket, soft and warm
And feel I’m in your loving arms.
