My Gandmother
Jessie Mae (Packer) Gilliland
would have turned 101 today.
I miss her so much.
She was such a beautiful woman in all ways.
She had an awesome spiritually about her,
and a wonderful sense of humor.
I wrote this poem about Grandma several years ago
Legacy of Love
Grandma Jessie I miss you much.
Your soft blue eyes, your gentle touch,
As you would smooth my tangled hair
With gentle hands and loving care.
I miss your gentleness, your grace,
Your loving eyes, your smiling face,
As you would laugh, and tease, and play,
Never weary, ever gay.
I miss your cheerfulness, your smile,
Though you were hurting all the while,
With gnarled hands, and piercing pain
I never heard you once complain.
You would create with magic and yarn
Afghans and blankets soft and warm
Sitting in your rocking chair,
With pain another could not bear.
Yes, Grandma Jessie, I miss you much
Your soft blue eyes, your gentle touch.
I hold my blanket, soft and warm
And feel I’m in your loving arms.
